Adele Rapport Biography


Adele Rapport is Senior Counsel with the Law Office of Richard T. Seymour P.L.L.C. She graduated from the University of Michigan Law School cum laude in 1980. After graduation, Ms. Rapport joined Arnstein & Lehr in Chicago where she handled a variety of cases involving labor and employment, products liability, personal injury, consumer fraud and deceptive practices, and restrictive covenant issues. Her clients included many fortune five companies, local health care facilities and educational institutions as well as doctors, business executives, and entrepreneurs. In the latter part of her career with the Arnstein firm Ms. Rapport began to specialize in labor and employment litigation and ultimately became the Chair of the firm’s Employment Litigation department. In this capacity, she litigated and supervised litigation in a variety of employment cases while at the same time counseling clients on employment issues, conducting training seminars, and drafting employment and severance agreements.

In 1991, Ms. Rapport moved to Michigan following her husband’s transfer to Detroit. She then began practicing with Charfoos, Reiter, Peterson & Holmquist, a boutique labor and employment law firm where she continued to handle the same type of labor and employment work she had handled at Arnstein.

In March 1993, Evan Kemp, then Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, appointed Ms. Rapport as the Regional Attorney for the Detroit District Office of the EEOC. During her 13 year tenure with the EEOC Ms. Rapport and the legal unit staff working under her direction were responsible for enforcing the federal anti discrimination laws in Michigan. She was also called upon to handle matters in other states and developed a specialty in disability and religious discrimination law. Ms. Rapport continued to personally handle litigation in addition to her supervisory responsibilities.

Ms. Rapport has also been very active in bar associations through out her career. She is a former member of the Labor Council of the State Bar of Michigan and the Former Public Chair of the Employment Rights and Responsibilities Sub Committee and the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section. In 2006, the President of the ABA appointed Ms. Rapport to the Standing CLE Committee. Ms. Rapport also became the Chair for the Executive Board of the American Trial Lawyers Association’s Employment Rights Section in 2006. In addition, Ms. Rapport serves as a Governor on the Board of Governors for the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

In connection with her bar association activities and her responsibilities as Regional Attorney, Ms. Rapport has been a frequent speaker and trainer on employment discrimination topics through out the country. In addition, from 1994-2006 she was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Law where she taught employment discrimination and disability rights courses.
